WPConsent Just Passed 200,000 Installs: Here’s What We Learned

WPConsent just crossed 200,000 active installations on WordPress.org, with a 4.9 out of 5 star rating.

We reached 100,000 installs in November 2025. Nine months later, we’ve doubled that number.

We didn’t just ask what a cookie plugin should have. We spent those nine months listening to our users, fixing the problems they kept running into, and making WPConsent easier to use with every release.

That’s what we believe has driven our growth.

And we couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you for every installation, review, suggestion, and conversation that helped us get here.

We Listened. We Improved

Here’s a sample of the most recent reviews on our WordPress.org page:

  • “This has been a great addition to my WordPress website. Very easy to set up and use.”
  • “WPConsent is easy to understand and easy to set up.”
  • “This was so easy to install, activate, and customize. And is doing its job well.”

Check out our reviews on WordPress.org.

These reviews tell us what matters to our users. WPConsent should be easy to set up, easy to understand, and reliable.

But we didn’t stop at listening. We started looking at the problems they kept running into.

Here’s what we’ve improved since reaching 100,000 active installations.

“What cookies are actually being set?”

A cookie scan gives you a list. But you need to see what happens when a real visitor moves through your site. That’s what the Cookie Inspector does.

  • It walks a fresh-visitor session, shows each cookie the moment it’s set, and traces it back to the exact script that set it.
  • You document the cookie and build a blocking rule in the same guided flow.

“How do I know if something changed on my site?”

You shouldn’t have to remember to check for new cookies every week. Scheduled scans now run on their own.

  • Full scan history plus email alerts the moment something new shows up.
  • When a scan finds new services, you choose which ones to keep, and WPConsent builds the full cookie and category setup for you.

“How do I properly manage consent records?”

Each consent log entry captures the Banner Context shown to that visitor, including the banner message, button labels, language, and policy page.

But consent logs pile up fast, and almost nobody remembers to clean them out. That’s what Automatic Consent Logs Cleanup does.

  • Set a retention window once, from 3 months to 2 years, and WPConsent deletes anything older every week, automatically.
  • Cleanup runs in safe batches, so it never overloads your database, even on sites with years of records.

“Is the cookie banner slowing down my site?”

A cookie banner shouldn’t add weight to a page that doesn’t need it. So we made the banner lighter.

  • The stylesheet loads only when there’s actually a banner to show. A returning, already-consented visitor downloads nothing extra.
  • This is the kind of thing that makes your user experience better.

“What if my site’s privacy needs don’t fit the default?”

Not every site has the same privacy requirements, especially across different regions and advertising frameworks.

We’ve added more control with IAB TCF 2.3, advanced display rules, Global Privacy Control, Canadian province targeting, and more:

  • Control when the banner appears and how blocking behaves for different visitors and locations.
  • We’ve also continued improving our Google Consent Mode v2 implementation as Google’s requirements change.

What hasn’t changed

For everything we’ve added since 100,000, the fundamentals haven’t changed.

Those were the reasons we built WPConsent in the first place. They still are.

200,000 down. What’s next?

And we’re not done listening. The next 100,000 will bring new questions, new challenges, and new opportunities to make WPConsent even easier to use.

Keep sharing your feedback. We’ll take it from there.
