Adding Cookie Information

For the most part, when using WPConsent, you’ll get the cookie data automatically configured by our website scanner. This guide covers the essential settings for configuring cookies manually in WPConsent.

Cookie categories help organize different types of cookies based on their purpose and functionality. WPConsent comes with default categories that you can customize:

  • To view existing categories, navigate to WPConsent > Settings and scroll to the Cookie Categories section
  • Each category has a title and description that will be displayed to your site visitors
  • You can edit existing categories by clicking the edit (pencil) icon
  • Add new categories by clicking the + Add New Category button
  • Default categories cannot be deleted, but custom categories can be removed if needed

Categories help visitors understand the purpose of different cookies and make informed consent decisions.

Managing Individual Cookies

Add and manage specific cookies used on your website:

  • Navigate to WPConsent > Settings > Cookies tab to manage individual cookies
  • Click the Add A Cookie button within any category to add a new cookie
  • For each cookie, you can specify:
    • Cookie Name (display name)
    • Cookie ID (technical identifier)
    • Description (purpose of the cookie)
    • Duration (how long the cookie persists)
  • Edit existing cookies by clicking the edit icon
  • Delete cookies by clicking the delete icon

Properly documenting your cookies helps visitors understand what data is being collected and stored.

Working with Services

Services represent third-party tools or platforms that use cookies on your website:

  • Click the Add A Service button within any category to add a new service
  • For each service, you can configure:
    • Service Name
    • Description
    • Privacy Policy URL
  • After adding a service, you can add cookies specifically associated with that service
  • This organization helps visitors understand which third-party services are used on your site

Services provide context for visitors about which external providers are setting cookies on your site.
